Lady’Back recap: The Southeastern Conference’s eastern division continues to wreak havoc for the University of Arkansas women’s tennis team as the Lady’Backs were handed a pair of losses on the road last weekend by Vanderbilt and Kentucky. The Commodores handed Arkansas their first shutout loss of the season on Friday, March 9th, in Nashville. The Lady’Backs did get a lift from No. 1 player Ela Kaluder against the Kentucky Wildcats two days later on March 11, but it wasn’t enough as Arkansas crumbled, 4-1, against the 23rd ranked Cats.

Up Next: The Lady’Backs take a break from conference play this week as they host their last mid-week match of the season against Louisiana-Lafayette this Wednesday, March 14 at 2:00 p.m. Arkansas is a perfect 5-0 all-time against UL-L, with their last match-up coming during the 2004 spring season. The Lady’Backs won that match handily, 5-2. After Wednesday’s match, the Lady’Backs take a week off in preparation for a trip to Dallas, Texas as they take on Southern Methodist University on March 21st. Last season, the Mustangs squeaked by with a 4-3 win in Dallas.

Streakin’: After the Lady’Backs hit a nice stride in February that produced five consecutive wins, March has come in like a lion as Arkansas currently sits in a five-match losing slump. The future looks bright, however, as the Lady’Backs have won five of their last six matches against nonconference opponents.

Movin’ on up: Tough competition has been almost a non-factor for Lady’Backs sophomore Ela Kaluder this year. Currently boasting an 11-1 record this spring, Kaluder collected SEC honors last week as the conference’s player of the week. This week, the Lady’Backs sophomore is ranked 30th in the country in singles.
