Fassi Leaps Up Leaderboard

GUELPH, Ontario – Rising junior Maria Fassi rebounded in round two firing an 8-under 62 moving up the leaderboard at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship at Cutten Fields on Wednesday.

Fassi struggled in the first round with a 78 but moved back to even for the tournament with her round on Wednesday. She is in the clubhouse in fifth place overall, just five shots off the lead. Her round of 62 was the best score in the field through two rounds of play. Play for the second round is not finished and will conclude late Wednesday evening.

The Hidalgo, Mexico, native had no birdies, six bogeys and one double bogey in the first round but rallied with nine birdies and one bogey in round two. She made a five-shot improvement on the par-4 holes helping her move up.

The four-day event sends the medalist on with an exemption to the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open and the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships.
