FAYETTEVILLE – Eric Fernandez posted a sixth-place finish in the 10,000 meters late Friday night at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. He was one of three members from the No. 14 University of Arkansas men’s track and field team to compete at the event.
Running in section one of the 10,000 meters, Fernandez crossed in a time of 28:48.44. Based on results entering the weekend, his performance is the No. 6 time in the NCAA this season. The top 48 declared individual performers will advance in each event per region. The Razorbacks will participate in the NCAA West Prelims, held May 26-28 in Eugene, Ore.
Layne Nixon made his outdoor debut for Arkansas and finished with a 10K time of 31:13.51. He ran in the second section of the event. Solomon Haile was part of section one with Fernandez but did not finish the race.
Arkansas will return to its home facility next weekend for the Razorback Spring Invitational. The meet will be held April 2 at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville with a start time of 1 p.m. (CT) for field events and 3 p.m. for the running events.
