BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Arkansas freshman infielder Dominic Ficociello was named Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week, as announced on Monday afternoon by the league office.
Ficociello is the second Razorback to earn weekly honors from the SEC this season. Kyle Robinson was named SEC Player of the Week earlier in the year.
A native of Fullerton, Calif., Ficociello finished the week with a .385 batting average with a home run and three RBI to help Arkansas to a 4-0 win, including a three-game sweep of then-No. 17 LSU. Ficociello had at least one hit in each game of the week and had one multi-hit game. The freshman drove in the game-winning run in the series opener against the Tigers, hitting his first collegiate home run in the sixth inning. In the second game of the series, Ficociello kept Arkansas’ ninth inning rally alive with a single, which eventually lead to the walk-off, three-run home run by James McCann to clinch the series. Ficociello staked the Razorbacks to an early lead in the series finale with a third-inning RBI single. Defensively, Ficociello was flawless in the field, handling all 29 chances he had on the week.
For the season, Ficociello leads Arkansas with a .340 batting average, a home run and a team-best 28 RBI.
Arkansas returns to the field on Tuesday, traveling to Springfield, Mo., for a game with Missouri State. First pitch against the Bears is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
