FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas freshman infielder Dominic Ficociellohas been named to Baseball America’s All-Freshman Second Team, as announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The honor marks the third freshman All-America honor that Ficociello has received following the 2011 season. He was also named a freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Louisville Slugger.
Hailing from Fullerton, Calif., Ficociello was the top offensive performer for the Razorbacks in 2011. The versatile infielder finished the season with a team-best .335 batting average with four home runs and a team-leading 50 RBI. Ficociello also led Arkansas in hits (75), doubles (15), multi-hit games (20) and multi-RBI games (14). The 75 hits tied the school’s single-season freshman record. Ficociello also hit better than .300 in conference games, finishing the league slate with a .314 batting average, two homers and 18 RBI. Defensively, Ficociello spent time at both corner infield positions and posted a .968 fielding percentage, committing 13 errors.
An All-Southeastern Conference Freshman Team and All-SEC Defensive Team selection, Ficociello is currently playing for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. In 10 games, including nine starts, with the Collegiate National Team, Ficociello is hitting .265 with eight RBI, nine runs scored and five stolen bases. Ficociello has made just one error in 86 chances for a .988 fielding percentage.
