Final fall softball tournament set for Saturday

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas softball team hosts the Arkansas Fall Invitational at Lady’Back Yard Saturday, Sept. 30. The Lady Razorbacks welcome Carl Albert, Oklahoma Baptist and Rogers State with action beginning at 9 a.m. when Arkansas meets Carl Albert. The Lady’Backs face Oklahoma Baptist at 5 p.m. and Rogers State at 7 p.m. Admission is free to the public. Arkansas softball head coach Jamie Pinkerton said he hopes the final three games of the fall prime the Lady’Backs for the 2007 season, which begins Feb. 9. “Going into the last week of the fall season, we know where our weaknesses are,” said Pinkerton. “We’ll use this last tournament to finalize our lineup and see what we need to work on in the off season.” This weekend’s competition includes two four-year NAIA universities and one two-year NJCAA college. Carl Albert was ranked 19th in the final regular season NJCAA Division I softball poll in 2006, while Rogers State knocked off Tulsa, a 2006 NCAA Regional team, in a fall game last weekend. The Lady Razorbacks won their first two fall tournaments with a perfect 6-0 record. Arkansas is hitting .381 as a team, scoring 56 runs in six games. On the mound, the Lady’Backs have a combined 0.00 ERA while striking out 49 batters. The Arkansas Fall Invitational concludes the fall season for the Lady’Backs. They resume play Feb. 9, 2007 in Tampa, Fla., at the University of South Florida-Best Western Tournament. For more information about Arkansas softball, log on to LADYBACKS.COM
