FAYETTEVILLE – The Arkansas Razorbacks softball team hosts No. 3 Georgia for the second to last Southeastern Conference series of the season at Bogle Park, April 22-24.
The Razorbacks picked up their second SEC win of the season against South Carolina last weekend at Bogle Park with a 2-1 victory in extra innings. Arkansas is fresh off a tough loss to Memphis on Tuesday in Sherwood, Ark.
Last season against Georgia, UA took two from the Bulldogs in Athens, Ga. A 3-2 win in game one through extra innings drove the Hogs to a 10-5 win in the second game of the series a year ago. Then-ranked No. 8 UGA took game the final game of the series with a 4-0 win over Arkansas.
Sophomore Courtney Breault went 3-for-4 in game two last season against Georgia. She had one RBI and a double. Stephanie Brewer had a RBI in both games of the doubleheader sweep as well.
The Bulldogs bring 21 RBI in the last 11 games from catcher Ashley Razey alone. Razey goes into the weekend series against the Razorbacks with a .331 batting average, but it is Alisa Goler who leads the team with a .381 batting average.
Arkansas has consistently been led all season by senior Becca Carden. Carden has started the last 20 games at the leadoff position and is a fixture in center field for UA. She has 24 RBI on the season and leads the Razorbacks with six RBI. Fellow senior Layne McGuirt boasts a 3.86 ERA in conference play. She pitched the Razorbacks to the defeat over South Carolina last weekend and pitched a total of 11.0 innings against the Gamecocks.
The first pitch on Friday is set for 7 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday have 1 p.m. start times. Trading cards of the 2011 Razorbacks will be handed out to the first 500 fans on Friday and the Razorback seniors will be recognized on Saturday prior to the first pitch.
