FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas volleyball team takes on Oral Roberts Tuesday in its first road match of the season. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Cooper Aerobics Center in Tulsa. The Razorbacks enter the midweek matchup after an undefeated run at the Arkansas Invitational with wins over UMKC, Grambling State and Samford.
During the tournament, Arkansas (3-0) posted a .315 team hitting percentage, the second-best mark in the Southeastern Conference through the first weekend of the season. Junior Kelli Stipanovich, named the Most Valuable Player of the Arkansas Invitational, leads the SEC with her .532 hitting percentage. The St. Louis, Mo., native is second on the team with 2.30 digs per set.
The Razorback offense also features sophomores Amanda Anderson and Jasmine Norton, hitting .457 and .280, respectively. Anderson and sophomore setter Cassie Clarke were also named to the Arkansas Invitational All-Tournament team. Clarke directed Arkansas with 10.56 assists per set and leads the team with seven total blocks-two solo and five assisted.
Defensively, the Razorbacks have 17.0 total blocks as a team. Behind the block, freshman libero Brooke Fournier leads the defensive charge with 3.80 digs per set. At the service line, Arkansas boasts 2.3 aces per set. The team tied the eighth-best mark in program history with 12 aces Saturday against Grambling State.
Oral Roberts (2-1) comes in to the match off victories over Lamar and UT-Pan American and a loss to Idaho State during the opening weekend of the season. Elizabeth McVicker paces the ORU offense with 2.77 kills per set and a .547 hitting percentage. The Golden Eagles’ offense, which posts a .252 team hitting percentage, is run by setters Laura Taylor and Anna Rossi, while libero Cassidy Holmes leads the team with 76 digs.
Arkansas leads the all-time series with Oral Roberts, 10-5. The two teams last met during the 2007 season and the Razorbacks came away with a four-set win in Fayetteville. After dropping the first five matches in the series, Arkansas has won the last 10 against ORU. Tuesday’s matchup with the Golden Eagles will be the first in Tulsa since the 1999 season.
