Fiscus To Be Honored With Banner Ceremony

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas Athletics Department continues it series of banner unveiling Thursday, Feb. 19, in Bud Walton Arena, recognizing Razorback great Bettye Fiscus in a special halftime ceremony.

A native of Wynne, Ark. Fiscus remains Arkansas’ all-time leading scorer nearly 30 years after she finished her collegiate career. From 1981 to 1985, Fiscus was a scoring machine for the Lady Razorbacks averaging a school record 18.5 points per game. She was the first Razorback basketball player to score 2,000 points and remains the only women’s player to reach that plateau.

Fiscus was Arkansas’ first All-Southwest Conference selection, an honor she would earn three times. She was named to the all-tournament team twice and was selected to the league’s all decade team. She was also a Wade Trophy finalist, an award given to the top women’s player in college basketball.

Fiscus’ No. 5 was retired in her honor in 1986 and she holds the distinction of being the first female student-athlete to be inducted into the UA Sports Hall of Honor. Fiscus is also enshrined in the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame.

Her numbers speak for themselves, but her impact extends far beyond the record books. While others have followed, none have matched the legacy of this true Razorback legend.

@RazorbackWBB hosts No. 2 South Carolina Thursday in an 8 p.m. tip. Kids 12 and under will get in free with a paying adult and fans are encouraged to wear red to the game as part of Code Red night.
