Five @RazorbackWBB Players Named To SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Five University of Arkansas women’s basketball players earned selection to the 2015 Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll, the league office announced today.

This year’s honorees include seniors Calli Berna and Jhasmin Bowen, redshirt junior Joey Bailey, junior Melissa Wolff and sophomore Kelsey Brooks.

Bailey and Berna have both graduated and started graduate school. Bailey, a Gunter, Texas, native, is pursuing her master’s degree in business administration and she is the president of Arkansas’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Berna, one of the nation’s leading point guards, graduated with a journalism degree in December, and started graduate school in January. Bowen will graduate in May with a degree in marketing. Brooks is a recreation and sport management major while Wolff is pursuing her degree in kinesiology.

The selections are the fourth consecutive for Berna and Bailey, the third for Wolff, the second for Brooks and Bowen.

To be selected, a student-athlete must have a grade-point-average of 3.00 or above for either the previous two semesters or as a cumulative GPA. Student-athletes must have been on the varsity team for at least two seasons and they must have completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of credit toward a degree.

Arkansas played to an 18-win season, a ninth-place finish in the SEC and the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the Razorbacks’ first dip into the Big Dance since 2013.

Along the way head coach Jimmy Dykes guided the Razorbacks to wins over three ranked opponents, the first time since the 2011-12 season Arkansas defeated at least two Associated Press Top 25 programs. In addition, Dykes and the Razorbacks navigated their way through one of the toughest schedules in the country, ranked No. 6 by the NCAA, and was one of just two programs in the Big Five Conferences to start league play facing three AP Top 15 teams in their first four games.

The new product on the floor brought new fans through the doors in 2014-15 as well. Arkansas saw a nearly 29 percent increase last season from the previous season and the season average is the highest since the 2007-08 season.

@RazorbackWBB finished the year 52nd in the NCAA welcoming 2,346 fans per game according to the NCAA national rankings. Arkansas hosted 14 games this year with 31,503 fans coming to Bud Walton Arena where they helped the Razorbacks to eight home wins against the sixth-toughest schedule in the NCAA in 2014-15.
