Five Lady'Backs take part in 105th North and South Amateur Championship

FAYETTEVILLE — Five University of Arkansas golfers are competing in first round action at the 105th North and South Women’s Amateur Championship in Pinehurst, N.C., Monday. Whitney Sylvan, Kristin Ingram and Lucy Nunn all had morning tee times while Stacy Lewis and Alex Schulte played in the afternoon session. Sylvan emerged as the lowest shooting Lady’Back in the morning group. The Columbia, S.C., native fired a first round 76 and came off the golf course tied for 19th overall. Ingram carded a 78 and was tied for 32nd while Nunn posted an 81 and was tied for 52nd. Lewis and Schulte came off the course much later but both faired well. Lewiscarded a 73 and ws tied for eighth when the dust settled. Schulte fired a 75and was tied for 23rd. The five Lady’Backs are fighting for the top 63 spots during the 36-hole stroke play portion of the event. Last year’s winner is exempt from qualifying and joins the 63 qualifiers for six rounds of match play concluding Sunday. Lewis reached the semifinals of last year’s event.
