FAYETTEVILLE – Capping a full day of activity Saturday, the University of Arkansas volleyball team beat Kansas in five sets at Barnhill Arena. The Razorbacks rallied to win the final two sets of the match to post the victory (23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-17, 15-7) in their first match of the spring season.
"We did some very good things considering it was our first match of the spring," head coach Robert Pulliza said. "We still have a lot of work ahead of us but I like the direction we’re going as a team. I really appreciate Kansas coming down for the weekend. It was a great day of volleyball."
The day’s action began at 9 a.m. with a two-and-a-half hour combined practice between Arkansas and the Jayhawks. After a break from competition, the two teams returned to the court for a 2 p.m. first serve. The Razorbacks get back to work Monday with a full week of practice before their next competition date. The annual alumni match will take place Saturday at 1 p.m., also at Barnhill Arena.
Following the alumni match, the remainder of Arkansas’ spring schedule includes a pair of tournaments-April 16 in Overland Park, Kan., and April 23 in Dallas-and an April 28 road match against Missouri State in Springfield, Mo. The two teams met during last year’s spring schedule with the Razorbacks earning a five-set victory in Fayetteville.
