Five Track Hogs Set to Compete at USA Junior Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Razorback track and field will be represented by five student-athletes at the 2008 USA Junior Championships, held at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, on the campus of Ohio State University. The meet will take place June 20-22.

Coming of fine freshmen seasons at Arkansas, Chris Bilbrew, Lane Boyer, Luke Laird, Spencer McCorkel and Duncan Phillips will travel to Columbus, Ohio for the event.

Bilbrew in the 800 meters, Laird in the javelin, McCorkel in the pole vault and Phillips in the 1,500 meters will compete Friday. Boyer will run the 10,000 meters on Saturday. Bilbrew and Phillips, should they advance, will compete in the finals of their events on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

In the running events, Bilbrew ranks second in the 800 meters with his season-best time of 1:49.23. Phillips ranks second in the 1,500 meters with his season-best time of 3:44.93. Boyer’s season-best time of 30:02.99 leads the nation heading into the event.

McCorkel is the nation’s third-ranked pole vaulter. He has a season-best clearance of 17-2.75 and a personal best of 17-9. Laird also leads the nation but in the javelin throw. His season-best mark, 228-4, was thrown to win the SEC title.
