Fletcher Adds Second Freshman All-American Honor

Baseball America Freshman All-Americans

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — For the second time since the 2017 season ended, Razorback centerfielder Dominic Fletcher earned another Freshman All-American distinction, this one coming from the nationally known magazine, Baseball America.

The Cypress, California native made the first team after making 56 starts for the Razorbacks and hitting .291 with 64 hits, 12 home runs, and 37 RBIs. Fletcher is the 19th Freshman All-American in program history and the first since Keaton McKinney earned the honor after the 2015 season. Fletcher was named a second team Freshman All-American by the NCBWA earlier this summer.

From day one, Fletcher was tabbed as the starting centerfielder for the Hogs and his numbers didn’t disappoint. His 12 home runs were third best on the team and tied for the most among all freshmen in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). At the conclusion of the regular-season, he was named to the SEC All-Freshman team.

Fletcher even crept up the Arkansas freshman record for most home runs hit in a single season, which was set by Zack Cox in 2009 when he hit 13.

Fletcher closed his first year out strong, hitting .356 over the final 18 games with six home runs and 13 RBIs. Eight of those games were multi-hit performances and two of his home runs came during Arkansas’ run to the SEC Tournament final. Against top-seed Florida in the tournament semifinals, Fletcher tied his season-high with four RBIs as part of a 3-for-4 day at the plate.

Even with the strong bat, Fletcher was even stronger in the field as he only made three errors for a .978 fielding percentage, the highest among any Razorback outfielder with 130 or more chances.

Arkansas concluded its 2017 season in the NCAA Fayetteville Regional and finished with a 45-19 record, a 19-game turnaround from 2016. Arkansas hosted its first NCAA Regional since 2010 and the 45 wins marked the seventh 40-win season in the last 10 years.
