Football practice report

The University of Arkansas football team returned to practice Tuesday evening as the Razorbacks continued preparation for Saturday’s homecoming game against Eastern Michigan. Following the workout, UA offensive coordinator Paul Petrino spoke with the media:

On how the receivers performed in practice Tuesday:"They came out and had a great attitude. I told them playing receiver is like being a great shooter. You don’t see Michael Jordan quit shooting when he misses a few or Kobe (Bryant). When you drop one, you have to come back the next play and play hard and you can’t worry about it. A couple of them are kind of young and still growing up. The one thing they have done real well is play well at home. We have the next four at home. Sometimes they talk about those rookies in the NBA don’t play well on the road; we didn’t play well on the road last week. We’re going to be at home the next four weeks, so we’ll get our confidence up and go out there and make a bunch of plays."

On if the staff made Tuesday’s practice shorter:"We did because this is the time of year where we shorten stuff up a little bit and try to freshen them up a little bit. Practice was a little bit shorter today. It went good and they had good attitudes."

On the focus of the Eastern Michigan game:"What we worried about today was us. We worried about coming back from what just happened to us and going out there and working to get better for the rest of the year. Obviously, this is the most important game because it is our next game, but we are really concerned about us and getting better these next three days and then going out and playing our very best game. I think as long as you can focus on that then it doesn’t matter who we are playing."

On the homecoming game against Eastern Michigan:"It will be nice. We’ve only been at home twice so it will be real good. I think that helps when you have so many freshmen and sophomores playing for you. It is always a lot easier playing at home then it is on the road. We are really excited to have the next four at home and just have to take them one at a time and win this one first."
