FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas football coaching staff met media Thursday at Paradise Valley Country Club for the Razorback Golf Scramble, with offensive coordinator Garrick McGee, defensive coordinator Willy Robinson and special teams coordinator John L. Smith fielding questions. The three Razorback coordinators shared a mutual readiness to begin fall camp in preparation for the 2011 season.
Coach McGee, who also serves as quarterbacks coach for UA, emphasized the amount of planning that goes into beginning a football season.
"It’s all preparation," Coach McGee said. "We’ll plan the first couple of practices. Now we’re at the point that next week, we’re going to game plan for a couple teams we’ll play early in the season. It’s all about preparation."
When reflecting on the UA team’s senior leadership, Coach Robinson made note of the important experience the Razorbacks have returning on their roster.
"For the first time, there’s a world of experience," said Coach Robinson, who also coaches UA’s defensive secondary. "That’s something to be excited about, and I think we have great leadership within that group."
Coach Smith mentioned how highly he is anticipating the coming season of Razorback football.
"This is about as excited I’ve been," said Coach Smith, who also oversees the outside linebackers unit. "We’re going to have to play well and stay healthy. We’re fired up."
The Razorback Golf Scramble was won by a team consisting of UA head coach Bobby Petrino, Dr. Josh Roller (Roller Weight Loss & Advanced Surgery), Trey Schapp (Drivetime Sports) and Matt Trumbo (Fayetteville AutoPark). View the winning team’s photo here.
