FAYETTEVILLE — Former University of Arkansas women’s golfer Stacy Lewis fired an 18 under 270 winning her fourth LPGA event of her professional career.
Lewis, a The Woodlands, Texas, native, picked up a two-stroke win over defending champion Lexi Thompson at the Navistar LPGA Classic. Lewis defeated Thompson by one-stroke to win the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic earlier this year.
This marks Lewis’ fourth career LPGA victory with her first coming at the 2011 Kraft Nabsico Championship. With this win, Lewis solidifies her lead in the Rolex Player of the Year points with 184 points and a 56-point lead over Jiyai Shin, seeking to become the first American Player of the Year since Beth Daniel in 1994. She also regains the No. 2 spot in the Rolex Rankings from Na Yeon Choi. A $195,000 first-place check takes her season earnings to $1,598,596 to stand at second behind Inbee Park.
