Former Razorback Romain leads Dominica team

FAYETTEVILLE — Another Razorback track and field star is on the center stage in Beijing, China, as Jerome Romain is the head coach for his native Dominca.

A finalist in the triple jump at the 1996 Atlanta Games for Dominca, Romain returns to the Olympic stage as the coach for his country. The current Brown University assistant coach was also chosen to be the flag bearer for Dominca in the opening ceremonies.

Romain joins former Razorback Veronica Campbell-Brown as flag bearers in this cycle’s Olympics. Selection as the individual carrying the nation’s flag in the opening ceremonies is perhaps the highest honor a team can bestow on a coach or athlete. Among the notable selections by other nations were NBA star Yao Ming for host China.
