Former Razorback Wins Doubles Title in Austria

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Matt Roberts, a former Tennis Hog, won a second doubles title in as many weeks with a tournament win at the Raiffeisen ITF Future event in Telfs, Austria. Roberts teamed with Christoph Palmanshofer to defeat Filippo Leonardi and Christian Magg, 6-1, 6-1, in the championship match.

Roberts and Palmanshofer began the tournament with a first-round upset of the second-seeded team of Michal Konecny and Michael Pazicky, 7-6(4), 6-2. Roberts and Palmanshofer advanced in the next round when their opponents were forced to retire in the second game of the match. They then advanced to the finals with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Antonio Sancic and Tibor Simic.

Last week, Roberts won the Montafoner ITF event with Gaetano Marrone for the second doubles title of his career. His first professional doubles title came in January at the Guatemala F1 Futures event where he teamed with Antonio Ruiz-Rosales for the tournament win.

During his career at Arkansas, Roberts was a two-time All-SEC performer. In his senior season, the Little Rock native won a career-high 28 matches while helping lead the Razorbacks to the regional finals in 2006. The 28-win season represents a tie for the seventh-highest win total in a year by a Razorback. Roberts also tallied 26 victories during the 2005 season.
