Forrest clocks NCAA best 5K

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Senior Shawn Forrest had another stellar race for Arkansas Razorback men’s track and field, this time at the Stanford Invitational Friday night distance carnival.

Forrest won the top section of the 5,000 meters. He clocked an NCAA- and SEC-leading time of 13:28.81. His time is also a regional qualifier, a personal best by nearly 18 seconds, currently ranks No. 4 in the world in 2009 and ranks No. 7 on Arkansas’ all-time list.

Senior James Strang punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships in June in Fayetteville, Ark. with an eighth-place finish in the 10,000 meters. His time of 28:29.27 is a personal best, ranks No. 6 on Arkansas’ all-time list, ranks sixth on the NCAA list and is third in the SEC.

Sophomore Lane Boyer also picked up an NCAA mark in the 10,000 meters. He finished 10th in the second section of the event with an NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 29:07.02. The time is also a personal best by nearly a minute.

Senior Andy McClary made his 2009 debut after missing the indoor season due to injury. He ran the top section of the 1,500 meters and finished eighth with a time of 3:45.42. He is now qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships.

Senior Mychael Stewart also made his 2009 debut on Friday. He won the invitational flight of the long jump with a regional-qualifying mark of 24-9.75. He also competed in the 100 meters, clocking a prelim time of 10.67 and 10.70. He finished third in the 100-meter final.

Competition will continue on Saturday for the Razorbacks with senior Nkosinza Balumbu in the triple jump. For more information, visit
