Fortson named honorable mention All-SEC

FAYETTEVILLE – Sophomore guard Courtney Fortson was named to the Associated Press’ All-Southeastern Conference Honorable Mention team on Monday afternoon.

Fortson was one of five players on the honorable mention squad which included Jeffrey Taylor and A.J. Ogilvy of Vanderbilt, Dee Bost of Mississippi State and Mikhail Torrance of Alabama. The honor for Fortson is his second All-SEC accolade after he earned second-team honors by the SEC Coaches last week.

The SEC Player of the Week on Feb. 8, Fortson had a fantastic season where he led Arkansas in scoring at 17.9 points per game and assists at 103. Fortson ranked No. 3 in the SEC in scoring during conference games and was the leading assist man in those same games with 5.9 per contest. Against Mississippi State on Jan. 28, Fortson carried the Razorbacks and scored 33 second-half points, matching the total of the Bulldogs in a come-from-behind win at Bud Walton Arena. The win started a five-game SEC winning streak for the Razorbacks, matching the fourth longest in school history.

So far, Arkansas has not been without its share of post-season awards. Fortson has been recognized by the SEC Coaches and Associated Press, freshman Marshawn Powell earned SEC All-Freshman honors by the SEC Coaches and Sporting News and sophomore shooting guard Rotnei Clarke was named to the U.S. Basketball Writer’s Association’s All-District team and to the SEC Community Service team.
