Four Home Runs in Win Over San Diego

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The Razorbacks’ bats stayed hot in Sunday’s 13-1 win over San Diego in the team’s finale of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Arkansas hit four home runs—bringing their weekend total to 11—including two from junior Tori Cooper and one each off the bats of Nicole Schroeder and Katie Warrick. Senior pitcher Grace Moll collected her third win and the Razorbacks improved to 7-0 through the first two weekends of the season.

Down a run entering the bottom of the first, Arkansas put a five spot on the board in their half of the inning with the help of a grand slam by Cooper. The offense generated six more runs in the third frame including a lead-off home run by Warrick, her third of the season. Shelby Hiers drew a bases-loaded walk which brought Schroeder to the plate with the bags still full. She drove a 2-0 offering over the fence in center to push the lead to 11-1 with her sixth home run.

Pinch-hitter Sydney Benz led off the fourth with a single, and pinch-runner Sydney Parr came around to score on Cooper’s two-run blast to left field. The Razorbacks’ 13 runs marked the fifth double-digit performance of the year, and second-highest total behind Friday’s 15-run output against Loyola Marymount. Five of Arkansas’ seven wins have been run-rule victories.

After giving up a run in the first—an unearned tally—Moll retired 10 of the final 11 hitters she faced. She struck out four and gave up three hits in four innings of work. Freshman Caroline Hedgcock made her collegiate debut, working a perfect fifth inning to secure the win.
