Four Hoop Hogs named to honor roll

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –- A total of 208 University of Arkansas student-athletes earned grades at or above a 3.0 grade point average for the fall 2008 semester, the Razorback Athletics Department announced recently.

Four members of the men’s basketball team have been named to the Razorback Honor Roll, which requires student-athletes to post a grade point average of 3.00 to 3.49.

The Razorbacks on the list are Rotnei Clarke, Stephen Cox, Nick Mason and Michael Sanchez.

Clarke is a freshman from Verdigris, Okla. He has started all 25 games and is averaging 11.4 points per contest while hitting 63-of-162 three-point attempts (.389). Clarke has led the team in scoring four times and has been in double figures 16 times.

Cox is a junior from Jonesboro. After playing in 10 games last year as a walk-on, he earned a scholarship this season and has appeared in 13 games.

Mason is a freshman walk-on from Jonesboro. He has played in one game.

Sanchez, who was earlier named to the Southeastern Conference’s Community Service Team, is a redshirt freshman from Springdale. He has started 23 of 25 games, and is averaging 6.0 points and 4.8 rebounds. Sanchez has led the team in rebounding four times and been in double figures scoring four times.

The list of 208 honorees includes 28 football players, 25 swimmers and divers, 24 soccer and men’s track and field athletes, 20 members of the baseball team, 19 softball players, 16 women’s track and field team members, 11 athletes from volleyball, 10 from gymnastics, seven women’s golfers, six each from men’s and women’s tennis, five from women’s basketball, four from men’s basketball and three from men’s golf.

In addition, the fall 2008 semester’s honors included 33 Razorback student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs.
