Four on SEC watch list

FAYETTEVILLE – Four Razorback student-athletes are included on the Southeastern Conference’s soccer coaches preseason watch list.

Head coach Erin Aubry’s club is represented by senior forward Kailey Anders, sophomore defender Melanie Foncham, freshman forward Jeri Ann Okoro and freshman midfielder Beth Stratton.

Anders, a nominee for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, has moved to forward this year after starting every game the last two years at defender. Foncham, as a freshman, was the only Razorback to play every minute of every game. Okoro and Stratton are two first-year Razorbacks Aubry is counting on to contribute this season.

Through two games this season, Anders leads the team with seven shots, six shots on goal and an .857 shots on goal percentage, and she’s tied for the lead with one goal. Stratton is tied for the team lead with one goal, and is second with six shots and three shots on goal. Okoro is tied for the team lead with one assist.

In the preseason coaches’ poll, Florida is picked to win the title with South Carolina picked second.

Auburn is picked to win the Western Division, followed by LSU, Ole Miss, Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi State. In the Eastern Division, Florida is first, followed by South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Kentucky.

The Razorbacks play host to No. 7 Oklahoma State on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Razorback Field. It’s also Senior Day as the Razorbacks will honor this year’s five seniors throughout the season. The seniors being recognized on Sunday are Anders, Brittany Hudson, Daniella O’Shea, Chelsea Tidwell and Kendal Winston. Anders, Tidwell and Winston are seniors athletically. O’Shea and Hudson are juniors athletically, but seniors academically and will graduate this year.

SEC play begins Sept. 23 when Arkansas plays host to Ole Miss at 7 p.m.
