PINEHURST, N.C. — Emma Lavy, Oliva Lavy, Regina Plasencia and Summar Roachell represented the University of Arkansas women’s golf team at the 111th Women’s North and South Amateur Championship in Pinehurst, N.C. Tournament play began Tuesday with the first of two rounds of stroke play before competitors move on to match play as the event progresses. Emma Lavy shot a three over 75 and it tied for 34th after the first round. Lavy opened with back-to-back bogeys on the second and third holes but rallied with a birdie on the fifth to move to one-over. She struggled with a couple more bogeys before turning plus-three. The Fayetteville, Ark., native eventually found herself at plus-five before recovering with birdies on the 15th and 17th holes to finish at three-over for the round. Sophomore-to-be Plasencia is tied for 77th overall after a first round 78. Plasencia turned after the first nine at three-over and posted her only birdie of the round with a three on the par four 11th hole. She struggled in the final four holes playing four over to finish with a six-over 78. Plasencia is tied with Razorback teammate redshirt freshman Oliva Lavy in 77th place. Lavy also shot a six-over 78 for the round. Future Razorback Roachell is tied for 88th after shooting 79 in the first round.
