FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas freshman Catherine Fowler earned East All-Star MVP honors Wednesday leading her team to victory in Barnhill Arena. Fowler, who received an exemption from the NCAA to play in her high school all-star match, tallied six kills, nine digs and a match-best six blocks for the East who won the match 25-23, 25-3, 15-25, 22-25, 15-5. The Conway, Ark., native is currently a freshman on the Lady Razorback roster having joined the team in January at the semester break. Fowler served the final six points on the fifth game notching four service aces in the run. She had a match-best seven with a powerful jump serve. “Catherine played fearless,” said Arkansas head coach Chris Poole. “She was really aggressive on the court. I thought she looked good and athletic and that’s what attracted us to her in the first place. We’re excited to get her back here in the fall.” “I also think that the level of volleyball is getting better and better,” Poole continued. “That’s very exciting to see.” Arkansas returns to the court for the program’s first official workout of the Fall Aug. 9.
