FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After helping the No. 19 Razorback women’s tennis team to a weekend sweep of Tulsa and Texas Tech, freshman Jade Frampton was recognized as the SEC Freshman of the Week earlier today by the league offices in Birmingham, Ala. This is first award for Frampton in her young Razorback career and is the second player to earn conference weekly honors this season.
“What an impressive weekend it was for Jade,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty. “It is definitely a testament to the steady improvement she is making.”
In those two matches over the weekend, Frampton was a key component in both 4-3 victories with No. 37 Tulsa and No. 69 Texas Tech. With Arkansas’ top player in senior Anouk Tigu out with an arm injury, Frampton was called upon to play on courts five and six and ended up scoring straight set victories against Sam Vickers of Tulsa and Lorena Aviles of Texas Tech.
After the Hogs lost the doubles point in both matches, the singles match wins by Frampton took on an even larger importance. With the two wins, Frampton remains undefeated to start the dual match season at 3-0. These last two matches were the first Frampton has played in since the dual opener against North Texas.
The women’s tennis team is in Charlottesville, Va. this week for the ITA National Indoors Tournament. Their first match of the four-day tournament is scheduled against top-ranked Stanford and first serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CST.
