Frampton in finals

NORMAN, Okla. – In Saturday’s second day of the Sooner Classic women’s tennis tournament at the University of Oklahoma, Jade Frampton won two matches to advance to the championship match in Flight C.

Frampton knocked off Barbora Vykydalova of North Texas, 6-2, 6-2, and Linda Aqvist of Texas-Arlington, 6-3, 6-1, to advance to the finals against Elizabeth Ullathorne of Texas Tech.

In other matches on Saturday, Emily Carbone defeated Oklahoma’s Tara Eckel, 6-4, 6-2, and Irina Paraschiv of North Texas, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. Kelsey Sundaram dropped a pair of matches to Wichita State’s Lutfiana Budiharto, 6-2, 6-0, and to DePaul’s Selma Salkovich, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. In Flight B, Valentina Starkova fell to Sarah Meghoufel of Oklahoma State, 6-0, 7-6, and to Raphaela Zotter of Wichita State, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.

"We worked quite hard today to get four up and four down," head coach Michael Hegarty said. "It felt better than that overall because I felt as far as our effort, we went seven for eight. The third day of this event will be an excellent test of our conditioning and a chance to test our mental toughness this early in the season."

The Razorbacks were 3-1 in singles and 3-1 in doubles on Friday, and 4-4 in singles on Saturday for a 10-6 combined record in the tournament.
