Franks, Kokorin earn academic all-district honors
FAYETTEVILLE — Nathanael Franks and Anton Kokorin have been recognized for their work in the classroom and on the track with their selection to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Team for men’s cross country and track and field. As all-district honorees, the two Razorbacks will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America ballot which will be voted on and announced in June. Franks, the 2013 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, posted a 3.93 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) and earned two degrees in December 2012 with one each in chemistry and physics. The Damascus, Ore., native just completed his first semester of graduate school and is seeking an MBA in finance. He was also the 2013 recipient of the Wooden Citizenship Cup. Franks was an SEC indoor champion with the Razorbacks’ distance-medley relay and will compete next week at the NCAA Championships in the decathlon. In the classroom, Kokorin carried a 3.78 GPA while pursuing a degree in supply chain management. During the indoor season, he was an All-American at 400 meters after finishing in fifth place in the event at the national meet. The Leningradskaya, Russia, native will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships as a member of the Razorbacks’ 4×400-meter relay. He was also an individual qualifier at the NCAA West Preliminary at 400 meters. The Razorbacks will complete their 2013 season next week at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships. With 20 entries into the national meet, Arkansas moved up to No. 2 in the latest release of the USTFCCCA poll. The meet will take place June 5-8 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The Razorbacks will be represented by 17 individuals and two relays with scoring chances in 13 events. The Capital One Academic All-America program is selected by CoSIDA.
