Freier and Orange Set To Represent Team USA at Pan Am Juniors

Schedule | Pole Vault Start List | 800m Prelims Start List

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Two young Razorbacks are set to represent team USA this weekend at the 2015 Pan Am Junior Championships. A two-time All-American in her first year with the Arkansas women, Desiree Freier will compete in the pole vault on Friday at 12:15. On the men’s side, incoming freshman and USA Junior 800-meter champion Carlton Orange will attempt to advance out of the preliminary round on Saturday Aug. 1.

This will be Freier’s second time donning red, white and blue in competition. The Texas native took on top international athletes as a member of team USA at last year’s World Junior Championships. Almost fairy-tale like, Freier took home a silver medal with a career best clearance and former American Junior record of 4.45m/14-7.25 on her 18th birthday.

Freier heads into the championship as a veteran on the junior circuit. She has four 14 foot clearances in the pole vault this season.

The 2015 Pan Am Junior Championships will be Orange’s first time competing on behalf of the United States. Recently named the MileSplit Performer of the USA Junior Championships, Orange looks to secure his first medal as a member of the national team.

In his last outing at the USA Juniors, Orange ran a career best of 1:47.67 to take the gold at 800 meters eclipsing his former PR by almost three full seconds.

A live webcast of the meet will be available via AthleticsCanada.tv beginning with the first running event of each day.
