George Finishes 39th At World Cross Country Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Representing the Razorbacks on the international stage, freshman Alex George finished in 39th place at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships this weekend in Guiyang, China. He was the top finisher for Great Britain’s junior team in a time of 25:54 and led his country to a 13th-place finish in the world junior competition.

 

 

During Arkansas’ cross country season, George was named the 2014 Co-SEC Freshman of the Year after a 10th-place finish at the conference meet. He also earned spots on the NCAA All-Region and SEC Second and All-Freshman teams. The Gloucester, England, native was a three-time SEC Freshman of the Week and a top-five scorer in the lineup in each of the Razorbacks’ seven meets.

Most recently competing for Arkansas, George scored twice at the SEC Indoor Championships with a pair of top-eight finishes including a sixth-place finish at 3,000 meters. He was also eighth at 5,000 meters at the conference meet.

The Razorbacks opened their outdoor season Friday and Saturday with five wins at the Arkansas Spring Invitational in Fayetteville. Arkansas returns to competition April 3-4 with the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
