GEORGE WALKER - OLD SPICE/ARKANSAS HONORARY CAPTAIN FOR NORTH TEXAS GAME

The University of Arkansas is proud to announce former Razorback George Walker as the Old Spice honorary captain for the North Texas-Arkansas football game on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The University of Arkansas Men’s Athletic Department will present an honorary captain for each Fayetteville home game this season. Each honorary captain will be honored prior to the game on the field, recognized on the SmartVision and will accompany the Razorback captains to midfield for the coin toss. The honorary captain will also appear at the Legends Tent presented by Old Spice and Spectrum Brands in the AT&T Trough approximately 90 minutes before game time.Walker lettered for the Hogs in 1954, 1955 and 1957 at quarterback. Walker also punted, kicked field goals and returned kicks during his career. For his career, he completed 102 passes for 1,537 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also rushed for 764 yards and 14 scores. As a punter, Walker averaged 37.7 yards per kick.In 1954, Arkansas would win the Southwest Conference Championship and finish 10th in the final AP poll. The season was highlighted by Walker’s 73 yard punt return for touchdown against Rice. He also scored the only Razorback touchdown in the 1955 Cotton Bowl loss to Georgia Tech.Walker was captain of Jack Mitchell’s 1957 squad. In 1999 he was elected to the University of Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor.
