Golfers in 8th after Second Round of SEC Championships

ST. SIMON ISLAND, Ga.The Arkansas men’s golf team shot an 8-over-par round of 288 on Saturday to move into eighth place after two rounds of the SEC Golf Champions at the Sea Island Golf Club’s par-70 Seaside Course.

Top-ranked Georgia held off hard-charging Florida for a one-stroke lead heading into Sunday’s final round. The Bulldogs 2-over-par 282 was just enough to stay on top with a two-day total of 2-under-par 588. The Gators fired a 6-under-par 274 to sit at 1-under-par 589. Arkansas has a two-day total of 23-over 583.

Alabama’s Matthew Swan took control of the individual race with a 3-under-par 68 on Saturday. He is 5-under-par for the tournament. He is three strokes ahead of Georgia’s Kevin Kisner and Florida’s Brett Stegmaier, who are both 2-under par for the tournament.

Arkansas’ Scotty Campbell is the leading scorer for the Hogs after 36 holes with a 3-over-par total of 143. He is tied for 18th place after shooting a 1-over-par 71 on Saturday.

Junior Matt Bortis struggled around the course on Saturday with a 6-over-par 76 to fall from a tie for 13th place to a tie for 35th. He is 7-over-par for the tournament at 147.

Eric Shriver’s 1-over-par 71 moved him up from a tie for 42nd place to a tie for 33rd position. He is 6-over-par 146 for the event.

Senior Josh Farrell turned in the Hogs’ best round of the day with an even-par 70. He is also tied for 35th place with a tournament total of 7-over par 147.

Will Osborne slipped further down the leader board on Saturday with a 77. He is in 57th place heading into Sunday’s final round.
