BATON ROUGE, La. – University of Arkansas sophomore Cara Gorlei fired scores of 72–70–142 and is in fourth place after two rounds at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Friday. She paced the No. 15 Razorbacks to a tie for second overall after 36 holes.

Tournament officials changed the format electing to play two rounds on Friday, and return to the course on Sunday for the final 18 holes as heavy rains were expected on Saturday.

The windy conditions helped in Arkansas’ slow start with the Razorbacks shooting a 5-over 293 in the morning round. That score put Arkansas in a tie for third place behind No. 11 Duke and No. 29 North Carolina State. The Razorbacks added a round two 291 moving up one spot into a tie for third when play ended.

Gorlei came off the course tied for eighth with an even–par 34–38–72, one shot better than teammate Alana Uriell who was tied for 13th shooting a 1-over 36–37–73 in the first round.

Play tighten up in round two and Arkansas responded moving up the leaderboard with a 293. The move elevated the Razorbacks over North Carolina State and broke the tie with No. 49 Washington with one round remaining.

The rally was fueled by Gorlei’s 2-under 70. Gorlei opened round two on the fifth hole of the golf course. She bogeyed the sixth and seventh holes but moved to the back nine where she made a run. The Cape Town, South Africa native birdied both No. 10 and No. 11 and had an eagle on the 12th hole moving to 2–under.

The strong play continued with birdies on the 14th and 18th holes before turning back to the front of the University Club Course.

Sophomore Maria Fassi is also in the top 10 and is tied for eighth place shooting 74–71—145. Fassi strung together five birdies over a seven–hole stretch in the second round moving up from a tie for 18th after the first 18.

Senior Summar Roachell rallied from a first round 81wth a 73 the second time around the course. She was 1–under on the back nine and finished with five birdies in the afternoon. Junior Alana Uriell is tied for 25th followed by sophomore Kaylee Benton who is tied for 29. Junior Jordy LaBarbera is playing as an individual and is tied for 76th overall.
