COLUMBUS, Ohio – University of Arkansas sophomore Cara Gorlei fired a 4-over 220 and finished tied for seventh to move on to the 2017 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship next week.

Gorlei helped Arkansas to its best round of the weekend with a 300 but the team fell two shots short of advancing at the NCAA Columbus Regional. Gorlei moves on as one of the top three individual players who are not on a team that advances.

Gorlei was as steady as a player can be in her final round. She finished the day even with two birdies and two bogeys on Wednesday. The Cape Town, South Africa native carded rounds of 74–72–74—220 to move on.

The challenging Scarlet Course saw the Razorbacks post some high numbers in the first round, digging a hole they could not overcome. Arkansas shot 309–301–300—910 finishing eighth in the field of 18.

Gorlei is the second Razorback individual to advance out of regional play. Former Razorback Stacy Lewis moved on in 2007. Lewis went on to win the individual national title that season.

The Razorbacks played well in the final round giving themselves a chance at moving on. Junior Alana Uriell finished with a 2-over 74 shooting (81–73–74) 228 for the week. Senior Summar Roachell concluded her collegiate career shooting 76 in the final round for (77–79–76) 232.

Sophomore Maria Fassi wrapped up with a 76 on Wednesday and newcomer Kaylee Benton added a 79 in the final round. Benton finished with a (77–77–79) 233 in her first Regional appearance as a Razorback while Fassi carded a (81–80–76) 237 for Arkansas.

Gorlei travels to Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois, May 19-24, as her postseason continues.
