Grable's National Championship Banner To Raise On Friday

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Former Arkansas gymnast, Katherine Grable, will be honored at this Friday’s tri-meet with the raising of her national championship banner. The ceremony will begin shortly before the night’s events begin.

Grable lifted the Arkansas women’s gymnastics team to new heights during the 2014 season, as she captured the program’s first two NCAA National Titles at the 2014 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics National Championship in Birmingham, Alabama.

She captured the program’s first NCAA title with a career-best 9.975 on the vault to claim a share of the 2014 vault title with LSU’s Rheagan Courville. The 9.975 set by the Oshkosh, Wisconsin native was the highest-winning vault score in NCAA history, as three judges gave her a perfect 10 for her routine.

Later in the afternoon, Grable would win Arkansas’ second-ever NCAA title by scoring a 9.962 on the floor exercise to win the title outright. Performing from the rotation’s final spot, Grable entered her routine needing to score higher than a 9.950 to win the event. Her performance resulted in a pair of perfect 10’s from the judges, which resulted in the 9.962 to give her the championship.

Grable ends her Arkansas career not only as a two-time NCAA champion, but also a nine-time NCAA All-American, the 2014 SEC Gymnast of the Year and a three-time All-SEC selection. She left Arkansas holding a share of the school record in the vault, balance beam, floor exercise and all-around.

The Arkansas women’s gymnastics team will take on Illinois State and Southeast Missouri in tri-meet action this Friday, Feb. 13, at Barnhill Arena. Events are scheduled for a 6:45 a.m. start.
