Green’s Two Goals Lead Arkansas To 4-1 Victory Over Omaha

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Dee Dee Green registered a pair of goals as the University of Arkansas soccer team picked up a 4-1 win over Nebraska Omaha on Saturday afternoon at Razorback Field.

Arkansas is now 6-0 during the spring season, having defeated Butler Community College (7-0) and Oral Roberts (2-0) in Tulsa, Okla., North Texas (1-0) and Tyler Junior College (2-0) in Denton, Texas and Missouri State (1-0) in Springfield, Mo. earlier this spring.

“Overall today was not bad,” said head coach Colby Hale. “The second half was better than the first. UNO kept the ball very well and I think we did a better job of preventing that in the second. We created some really good chances, but our team defending was bad. We have a lot to work on but overall today was a good spring performance.”

The Razorbacks outshot UNO 21-6, while the Mavericks recorded seven saves to three from Arkansas keeper Cameron Carter.

Green tallied the first goal of the contest in the 11th minute. Ashleigh Ellenwood’s throw in found Green, who blasted a shot past the Omaha keeper and into the top right corner of the goal. Omaha would score the equalizer with 17:08 left in the opening period.

The second score of the game for Arkansas came in the second half when Green got by her defender and sent a laser towards the goal and hit the crossbar before going in.

The Razorbacks would get scores from Jessi Hartzler and Rachel Riggs over the final 22 minutes of the game and went on to pick up the 4-1 victory to remain undefeated during the spring season.

The spring season comes to a close on April 26 in St. Louis when the Razorbacks face Iowa at a neutral site (St. Louis, Mo.). The Hawkeyes, under first-year head coach Dave DiIanni, finished the 2014 campaign with a 14-7-1 record and fell to Wisconsin (1-0) in the Big Ten Tournament championship game.
