Gregory Sets School Record Makes ‘B’ Cut

GAINESVILLE, Fla.-On day three of the Southeastern Conference Championships, University of Arkansas freshman Emily Gregory paced the Lady Razorbacks as she qualified for a NCAA ‘B’ standard in the 100 butterfly.

Gregory broke the Arkansas school record with her performance in the preliminaries and then broke senior Zsuzsa Csobanki’s record again in the finals of the 100 fly. Gregory finished in 15th place.

Head coach Anne Goodman James said she was proud of Gregory’s performance in her first conference championship meet.

“Emily Gregory was definitely our star,” Goodman James said. “This is a NCAA ‘B’ cut, which is a tremendous accomplishment for a freshman.”

Gregory and the Lady’Backs are in ninth place as the conference championships conclude, Saturday with races starting at 9 a.m.

The 200-freestyle relay of Csobanki, Gregory, freshman Katie Borkovec and senior Lisa Petry took ninth with Petry setting a personal lifetime best time.

Goodman James said she thrilled with Petry’s performances in her final conference championship appearance. “The other standout was Lisa Petry,” Goodman James said. “Lisa continues to go lifetime best times, and to swim outstanding anchor legs on our freestyle relays.

Petry set a lifetime best in the 100 back preliminaries and also recorded a lifetime best mark in her split of the 200-freestyle relay.

“We are so excited to see Lisa finish her career at Arkansas with these outstanding performances her senior year,” Goodman James said.
