GymBack Season Update (So Far!!!)

BY JUNIOR SAM CORTEZ

Wow time has flown by! I can’t believe we’re almost half way into our season, it’s gone by so quickly! Our season started off a little rocky at Super Six, but the freshmen got their feet wet and had their first taste of a college gymnastics meet. Now that they know what to expect, the freshmen have really begun to blossom.

It’s so amazing to come in everyday and see how talented this team truly is. We bounced back from Super Six and had a great meet at Penn State. It really gave us the confidence boost we needed. Competing athome the following weekend was a great feeling. We were ready to show our home crowd what we could really do and we did just that. The meet against Georgia was awesome. We did so well scoring over a 196 and almost beating them! It was a great feeling.

Traveling has been fun – with the exception of Utah. We finally arrived in Salt Lake City around 2 p.m. on Friday and had only 2 hours to get ready before we had to leave for the arena. It was definitely a stressful situation, but the team handled it so well. We kept our cool and tried to rest as much as possible. I was really impressed with how well this team handled that stressful situation. It just goes to show you how tough we really are! Competing in that arena was a great experience and hopefully, we’ll get to do again at the end of this season at Nationals.

Now we’re preparing for our next home meet against Florida. It’s going to be an exciting meet and we’re ready to give those Gators a run for their money!
