Gymbacks Host NCAA Regional on Saturday

FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas gymnastics team is set to host the 2014 NCAA Fayetteville Regional on Saturday, April 5, in Barnhill Arena. The meet is slated for a 4 p.m. start. The Razorbacks will enter the meet as the third-seeded team and will need to place in the top-two to advance to the NCAA National Championships later this month. Joining the Razorbacks at the regional will be top-seeded Utah, No. 2 seed UCLA, No. 4 seed Arizona State, No. 5 seed Utah State and the No. 6 seed UC Davis.“The team is really excited to be back home for regionals,” co-head coach Rene Lyst said. “This is why we host this meet, it is our opportunity to finish in the top-two of the meet and qualify for the National Championships. We have been outstanding in practice and we are ready for Saturday.”This will mark the fourth time in program history that Arkansas will host the NCAA Regional Championships. Arkansas advanced to the National Championships on each of the three previous occasions including in 2006 when the Razorbacks upset the No. 2 seed UCLA to advance to the NCAA National Championships for the first time in program history. The Razorbacks will start on the vault in the first rotation and continue to a bye before bars, bars, beam, bye before floor and the finish on the floor in the sixth rotation. The final rotation will feature Utah on vault, UCLA on beam and the Razorbacks on the Floor.The Razorbacks come into the meet ranked No. 17 in the country and senior All-American Katherine Grable is the No. 3 overall gymnast in the country and will lead the Razorbacks one last time in Barnhill Arena. Grable has been named the 2014 SEC Gymnast of the Year and has won 10 out of 11 all-around and floor titles this season.Overall, the Razorbacks have advanced to the NCAA National Championships seven times in its 13 year history and currently has a streak of six-straight trips to the meet as a team.Fans can purchase tickets online at www.ArkansasRazorbacks.com or purchase them at the door. The first 500 University of Arkansas students will obtain free admission.
