Gym'Backs opens on bars at NCAA Championship

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas gymnastics team opens the 2008 NCAA Championship on bars, the team learned Monday. Arkansas, ranked 11th heading into the National Championship meet, competes in the first session Thursday, April 24, at 12:00 p.m. The Gym’Backs begin on bars, move to beam, have a bye, return on floor, then vault and finish with a bye. It is the same rotation Arkansas had last week at the NCAA North Central Regional Championship. “It’s a great rotation,” said co-head coach René Cook. “Certainly, it’s one we’re familiar with and we’re excited to get to Athens and get things going.” Arkansas finished second Saturday at the North Central Regional in Minneapolis, Minn., earning the program’s second NCAA Championship bid. The Gym’Backs face No. 3 Florida, No. 4 Alabama, No. 7 LSU, No. 8 Oregon State and No. 10 Oklahoma in the first session. Top-ranked Georgia headlines the second session along with No. 2 Utah, No. 5 Michigan, No. 6 Stanford, No. 9 UCLA and No. 13 Denver. The top three teams from each of the two sessions advance to the Super Six Friday with the individual championship Saturday.
