She Said…

Season is just around the corner and the GymBacks couldn’t be more excited. We are in our final days of training before the Christmas holiday. We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to have the equipment set up in our competition facility from now until the end of January. We have been able to train in a meet setting and we are looking forward to our intra-squad in Barnhill Arena this Friday Dec 21. I feel the team is as excited as the coaching staff because we all feel fully prepared.

With the break from classes, the team has been able to participate in several community service initiatives. It’s a great opportunity for all of us to share and give, especially this time of year.

The girls are also enjoying time ‘hanging out’ and relaxing together. This time of year always strengthens team bonds. There is always some story being told in the training room before practice each day!

We just enjoyed our annual Holiday Party. We always pick Secret Santa’s right before Thanksgiving. All the little treats and gifts through finals really helps everyone feel ‘loved’ during a stressful time. In addition, at the Holiday Party we each read a poem we have written about our Secret Santa. This is my favorite team tradition. It is always quite entertaining and thoughtful.

This year we began a new tradition. Each of us brought our favorite holiday dish to the party. It was fun, yummy, and extremely random! Amy, I believe, cooked for the first time and made us all awesome wontons! Alli made gouda grits that were actually quite good. Sarah made this potato casserole with lost of yummy stuff in it and cornflakes on top. Sam treated us all to tostones and had to visit several Hispanic grocery stores to get the ingredients! I could go on and on, but most importantly we had a lot of fun and learned more about each other.

Look for the footage of our intra-squad on Friday. Meanwhile, enjoy the photos from the Holiday Party! We wish you a happy and healthy Holiday Season!
