HE SAIDEvery year is different as the changing of the guard takes place, and new athletes arrive to take the banner and move a team forward. It is so interesting to see how the different freshman athletes respond to all the changes in their lives, considering that their backgrounds and where they come from are so varied. You hope that your recruiting was on mark to bring the right chemistry together, coupled with strong gymnastics and focused students. After graduating our first senior class, there was much anticipation of what changes would occur. I am pleased to say that I think we have really done that well this year. I know that it is early, but so far this team consisting of six freshman and seven returnees, and are showing tremendous focus. After finishing 12th this past season, and competing at the National Championship in only our fourth competitive season, what will this team be able to accomplish this year?I feel this team has the ability to surpass what we accomplished last year. With a little luck, and a lot of hard work you will see a higher level of difficulty from our team this year. In order to compete at the National Championships, and be competitive it is essential to perform at a certain level, and with clean execution. Although inexperienced in collegiate competition, our freshman class will have an opportunity to make significant contributions toward improving last year’s finish. We also have a new assistant coach, Dave Kuzara, who comes from West Virginia where he severed as an assistant coach the past three seasons. Dave is a perfect fit for both our program and us. Both Rene’ and I look forward to sharing the next chapter of this amazing journey with Dave and our new Grad Assistant, Lauren Mirkovich. GO GYMBACKS!!
