Hall of Honor banquet sold out

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Tickets to the 2009 University of Arkansas Hall of Honor induction banquet, set for Friday at the Holiday Inn in Springdale, are sold out, the Razorback Foundation has announced.

More than 900 tickets have been sold for the event.

Eight former University of Arkansas standout student-athletes are being inducted this week, including Shawn Andrews, the first sophomore first-team football All-American in school history; Ron Calcagni, the winningest quarterback in school history; Dr. Jim Counce, the assists leader on the 1978 Final Four basketball team; former tennis coach Tom Pucci, who led his teams to three NCAA Elite Eight and three Sweet 16 finishes; and Veronica Campbell-Brown, a two-time Olympic gold medalist.

They are joined by former Razorback player and South Carolina head football coach Richard Bell, NFL and AFL draft pick Billy Joe Moody and seven-time NCAA champion Alistair Cragg.

They were elected to the UA Sports Hall of Honor by a vote of former letterwinners in conjunction with the “A” Club.

“It is a tribute to the quality of this year’s induction class that we are sold out for the event,”Foundation Executive Director Harold Horton says. “The overwhelming response is also reflective of the work of the 37 sponsors that have partnered with us to make the Hall of Honor celebration possible. We are looking forward to a memorable weekend and honoring these great former Razorbacks.”

Horton added others scheduled to attend this year’s event include former basketball coach Eddie Sutton, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, basketball All-American Sidney Moncrief and former Athletic Director Frank Broyles.

The banquet also includes an auction of more than 50 items, including autographed football helmets from the Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers, a Cleveland Indians jersey signed by Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee, and items from basketball stars Ron and Ronnie Brewer, among many others.
