FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas senior first baseman Danny Hamblin tore up the Florida pitching staff over the weekend to earn SEC Hitter of the Week accolades the conference office announced on Monday.
Hamblin hit .462 against the Gators with two home runs, eight RBI and a .923 slugging percentage. He tied a career-high with five RBI in the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader with three hits, including his 10th home run of the season. He then went 2 for 4 in the nightcap with an RBI. Hamblin helped the Hogs complete the sweep on Sunday with a seventh-inning two-run home run that tied the score at 6-6.
It is the Razorbacks third SEC weekly honor this season. Jess Todd was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week with two wins over No. 1 Vanderbilt and Nick Schmidt was then tabbed a week later with a complete-game win at Tennessee.
South Carolina’s Arik Hempy was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week after throwing 6.2-scoreless innings and limiting Auburn to just two hits on Saturday. It was Hempy’s first start since Tommy John surgery last season. LSU outfielder/designated hitter Blake Dean earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after hitting .529 with two doubles, a triple, a home run and four RBI as the Tigers took the series from Ole Miss.
Arkansas travels to Missouri State on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. contest with the Bears. The Hogs continue their four-game road trip over the weekend at Georgia. Friday’s game against the Bulldogs will be televised by Cox Sports Television with first pitch slated for 5:37 p.m.
