Hampton and Clark Return to Practice Field

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas quarterbacks Robby Hampton and Zak Clark were among the Razorbacks that returned to the practice field on Tuesday afternoon in anticipation of the Hogs’ Oct. 28 battle with Auburn.
The Hogs have an open date this weekend and head coach Houston Nutt is hoping to use the off week to improve things on the injury front especially at quarterback.
Hampton suffered a bruised thumb, a neck and shoulder strain and a bruised knee in the Razorbacks’ 27-7 loss to South Carolina. Clark was sidelined in the USC game as well after spraining his left ankle against the Gamecocks. Both practiced on Tuesday, although Clark took an early break after he was stepped on in a team drill.
“I was proud of Robby and Zak for sucking it up and going through some things today when they were in some pain,” Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt said. “They are really trying hard to get better and that is all you can ask for. It’s hard when you can’t protect yourself. He (Zak) went through all the individual and fundamental parts of practice. It’s just when you are in a team situation and people are rushing and stepping on you, you’re just asking for it. So we got him out of there.”
Boo Williams (dislocated left shoulder) and Derrick Johnson (severely sprained left knee) didn’t practice on Tuesday while center Josh Melton also missed work after suffering a concussion against the Gamecocks.
“We didn’t have Boo Williams today,” Nutt said. “It doesn’t look like we will have him. We are going to wait five or six more days to see if it will tighten up. (UA Head Trainer) Dean (Weber) has him in a rehabilitation program right now and we will see what happens. It doesn’t look like Derrick Johnson is getting much better, so we will probably be without him. Shannon Money made it all the way through today and that was good.”
Arkansas is slated to practice on Wednesday and Thursday before taking Friday and Saturday off. The Razorbacks will begin game-week preparations for Auburn on Sunday.
