Hankenson, Ortiz Named to SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – In recognition of their efforts in the classroom, soon-to-be sophomores Bailee Hankenson and Kori Ortiz were named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll. During the 2014-15 academic season, the Razorbacks had 10 student-athletes named to the league’s Fall and First-Year Academic Honor Rolls. The Razorbacks announced their 2015 schedule last month which features 15 home dates including nine SEC opponents at Barnhill Arena.

During her freshman season, Hankenson averaged 10.16 assists per set during SEC play and dished out a season-high 61 assists in a five-set win over Georgia that gave head coach Robert Pulliza his 100th career win at Arkansas. She registered nine matches with 40 or more assists including five matches with at least 50 assists. Hankenson finished the year with six double-doubles which was second most on the team.

Ortiz made 11 starts during her freshman campaign before stepping into the libero role over the final 13 sets of the season. She tallied double-digit digs in 10 matches including the final five matches of the season including a season-best 16 digs against No. 6 Florida at Barnhill Arena. Ortiz had seven or more digs in 17 matches in 2014 and averaged 2.03 digs per set during SEC play.

Among the First-Year Academic Honor Roll requirements, Hankenson and Ortiz had to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher during the academic year. A total of 64 first-year Razorbacks earned a spot on the list. Arkansas Volleyball enters the summer off a 3.5 GPA during the spring semester and the program’s third-consecutive public recognition award from the NCAA for its APR success.
