Hannahs Lands On Prestigious Watch List

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday morning that Arkansas senior guard Dusty Hannahs is one of 20 watch list members for the 2017 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award.

Named after Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player Jerry West, the annual honor, in its third year, recognizes the top shooting guards in Division I men’s college basketball.  A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.

As one of the best pure shooters in the nation, Hannahs enters his senior year with 976 career points after leading Arkansas in scoring last season at 16.5 points per game. He capped his redshirt junior season with a career-high 33 points against Florida in the SEC Tournament, knocking down 12 field goals and going a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.

The Little Rock native is the Southeastern Conference’s leading returner in 3-pointers made and 3-point field goal percentage after draining 81 treys last year. Hannahs made three or more three-pointers in a game 18 times last season, including a career-best 8-for-13 performance from behind the arc against Mississippi State.

His .433 3-point field goal percentage last year is the 12th highest in the country among returning players and his .870 free throw percentage is the best in the league among returners and the third-best among high-major players.

By mid-February, the watch list will be narrowed to 10 players. In March, five finalists will be presented to West and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee.  The winner of the 2017 Jerry West Award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show in Los Angeles on Friday, April 7, 2017. Broadcast information will be released at a later date.

Hannahs and the Razorbacks open the regular season on Nov. 11, welcoming Fort Wayne to town who was picked to win The Summit League regular season championship.
