Harbin to Represent USA at University Games

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Former Razorback standout and recent graduate Danielle Harbin will represent the United States as a member of the volleyball team selected to compete at the 29th Summer University Games (Universiade) in Taipei City, Taiwan. Held every two years, this year’s Universiade which consists of up to 17 sports will be contested Aug. 19-30.

In her breakout senior campaign, Harbin was an AVCA All-South Region Honorable Mention performer after averaging 4.22 kills per set which ranked third in the SEC and 33rd among the nation’s top attackers. She registered 20 or more kills in eight matches including a career-best 27 kills in a five-set win over Georgia (Oct. 30). The Mobile, Ala., native had four double-doubles during the season and picked up a career-high 18 digs against Mississippi State (Oct. 26).

Harbin and Team USA will open round-round play in Pool C along with Japan, Latvia and Thailand. Japan won the bronze medal at the 2015 Summer Universiade in South Korea; Russia is the defending champion. Running concurrently, the men’s and women’s volleyball competitions will be held Aug. 19-29 at the National Taiwan University Sports Center.

The Razorbacks have already experienced success on the international stage this summer with the recently completed XVI Pan American Cup in Peru. Senior Pilar Victoria and Puerto Rico won bronze while associate head coach Jon Newman-Gonchar helped Team USA to the gold. Redshirt sophomore Fernanda Güitron played at the Pan Am event with Mexico, while Victoria played alongside former Razorback standouts Ana Sofia Jusino, Raymariely Santos and Janeliss Torres.
