FAYETTEVILLE – For its third race of the 2010 season, the No. 15 University of Arkansas men’s cross country team will compete Saturday at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. The 8K race is scheduled for a 12:50 p.m. (CT) start on the Stanford University Golf Course. In addition to the Razorbacks, the race will feature host and top-ranked Stanford along with No. 4 Northern Arizona.
Seniors Lane Boyer, Michael Chinchar, Patrick Russell and Dorian Ulrey, juniors Rick Elliott, Duncan Phillips and Dey Tuach, sophomores Eric Fernandez and Solomon Haile and freshman Bryan Cantero will make up Arkansas’ top-10 lineup in Saturday’s race. Sophomores Tom Cattin-Masson, Cameron Efurd, Michael Golden and Aaron Hamilton and freshman will run as Arkansas’ "B" squad.Omar Abdi
Ulrey, a 2009 cross country All-American, and Russell will be making their season debuts at the Stanford Invitational. Cantero and Cattin-Masson will be running their first-ever race wearing the Cardinal and White.
In their last outing, the Razorbacks ran to a second-place finish last weekend at the Missouri Southern Stampede. Efurd finished the race as Arkansas’ top performer with an 11th-place showing on the 8K course in Joplin, Mo. The rest of the top five, in order, included Hamilton, Golden, Abdi and Elliott.
Arkansas last completed at the Stanford Invitational during the 2008 season. In that race, the Razorbacks scored 103 points to come away with a bronze finish. Along with former Hog Scott MacPherson, Boyer (10th) and Fernandez (18th) were Arkansas’ top finishers in the 2008 race. Other current Razorbacks that participated in that meet include Chinchar, Elliott and Phillips.
In the current USTFCCCA national poll, the Razorbacks sit at No. 15 and maintain their top spot in the South Central Region rankings. Arkansas is the second-ranked Southeastern Conference team in the national poll, behind fifth-ranked Alabama.
